Abstract

Closed-form solutions were obtained for the natural frequencies of inhomogeneous beams. The beams under considerations had a sliding support on the left and pinned support on the right end. The solutions contained both deterministic and probabilistic formulations, with deterministic relationship serving as a transfer function for the probabilistic calculations. Polynomial representation of the mode shape was postulated, and a closed-form solution was obtained by formulating an inverse vibration problem.
