Abstract
The study compares and contrasts general accounting practices and procedures as they are applied in profit and not-for-profit organizations. The data from which this study was made was gathered from existing publications in the fields of accounting and association management as well as policy and practice statements issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The study describes the differences in for-profit and not-for-profit accounting practices and procedures as they exist in current practice. The study represents a state-of-the-art overview of not-for-profit accounting procedures of use to anyone establishing operating guidelines for such an organization.
