Abstract
Impact buckling of elastic bars with initial imperfections is studied. The latter are as sumed to be a normally distributed random function of the space coordinate with given mean function and autocorrelation function. The initial imperfection and additional ch. flection function are expanded in terms of the vibration modes of the correspondim; pafeet structure without an axial force. Fourier coefficients of the expansion for the iniUnl imperfection function are simulated numerically, and the statistical behavior of the lunch ling time (time to first failure) is determined. © 1978 by ASME.
