Abstract
Random vibration is discussed of a system with finitely many degrees of freedom and two sets of eigenvalues: a single separate one representing the natural frequency of a single-degree-of-freedom structure - and all the others, which are coalescent. It is shown that as the number of degrees of freedom tends to infinity, the error introduced by omission of the cross-correlation terms reaches 70%.
