Abstract
The study focuses on the buckling of cylindrical shells with small periodic axisymmetric thickness variations and initial geometric imperfections. Asymptotic formulas are derived by means of the energy criterion, resulting in simple equations for the critical load factor in the presence of both thickness variations and axisymmetric imperfections of the mid-surface. Results of the asymptotic formulas are compared with those of the numerical technique.
