Abstract
A flexibility based finite element formulation for stochastic beams is proposed. The element-level FE equilibrium equation is divided by the stiffness so that the stochasticity appears at the right side of the equation as the stochastic flexibility. As a result, the internal forces appear explicitly in the global FE equilibrium equation. The superiority of the new formulation over the perturbation-based formulation is demonstrated through an example.
