Abstract
In this study, apparently for the first time in the literature, closed-form solutions are reported for the buckling contents of inhomogeneous columns, via the semi-inverse method. The buckling mode is postulated in advance; the physically admissible distribution of the flexural rigidity is determined such that the column posses the preselected buckling mode. This procedure leads to the closed-form solutions. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
