Abstract

The ability to extract meaningful insights from medical images is paramount in healthcare. This thesis surveys the evolution of medical imaging modalities and analysis, from analog methods to today’s deep learning-based approaches. It explores current challenges–namely, the lack of trust and interpretability of deep learning models in the healthcare domain. Practical MATLAB “how-to” recipes are proposed to aid researchers, students, developers, and practitioners in the field of medical image analysis. The overarching goal is to empower future users with the skills to navigate the modern applications of medical image analysis and instill trust in these tools.
