Abstract

Food addiction has become a critical concern that has reached pandemic proportions throughout the entire world and especially in America. Due to this condition, many diseases and deaths have occurred; however, this issue does not garner as much attention as necessary despite its seriousness and impact on individuals. This is due to how the condition is viewed, diagnosed, and treated. The mechanism of action of food addiction is homogenous with other forms of addiction, but differences in treatment options remain at issue. Diagnosis and treatment for food addiction, a psychological disorder must fall in line with treatment protocols of other forms of addiction. By bringing awareness to the issue and changing the view that the disorder is a psychological condition, the fight to conquer and eliminate food addiction, can be won.
