Abstract

There are many different approaches for the development of grade and junior high school instrumental students to prepare them for the high school band. Methods, procedures, and techniques used by teachers are largely patterned after their personal school band experience plus the methods courses taken in college. Trial and error experience is without doubt the most important and most valuable training, but a teacher receives this only after he is on the job. This thesis is the result of an experimental reading approach program conducted at McNicol Junior High School in 1960.
