Abstract

Black Power is still a very undefined concept. What it amounts to, after all the rhetoric is cut away, is a bourgeois, nationalistic, capitalistic, amelioristic, and gradualist reform program. It has all the options open to all ethnic groups in America at any time. Due to present conditions, however, these options are uncertain and blocked by greater obstructions. The options are capital accumulation, a higher degree of integration into labor organizations, a higher degree of participation in the political arena, including coalition politics, various self-help schemes, advancement through higher education, and, most unlikely , some kind of revolutionary activity. Ethnicity is still a factor in the American social, political, and economic panorama. It can be either a hindrance or an advantage in the advancement of any minority group.
