Abstract
This study was undertaken to compare the frequency of occurence of pronunciation errors due to interference from the structure of English with that of pronunciation errors confined to the language system of German. The analysis concerns itself exclusively with errors on the functional level of language. It describes in detail the errors within the language system of German as observed in the speech of fifteen American college level students of German. Tables demonstrate the ratio of frequency between the different groups of errors. The conclusion suggests the use of error-based analyses as a supplement to contrastive analysis.
