Abstract
This study analyzes the convergence between existentialist philosophy and urban lyric in the rap work of the Venezuelan composer Tirone “Canserbero” González, addressing deep themes of philosophy, religion, folklore, and literature. Through a detailed study, the essay demonstrates that this piece of rap transcends the musical realm to become a work with a significant literary charge. The analysis highlights the value of the song as a social text, showing its potential to be reviewed and analyzed in academia, given its cultural and discursive richness. The central thesis holds that “Es épico” constitutes a space of semantic convergence in which the rewriting of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and of the legend of Florentino y el Diablo by Venezuelan Alberto Arvelo Torrealba allows Canserbero to articulate an existentialist reflection on justice, sin, and the sovereignty of the subject. Through the technique of battle rap, the artist subverts traditional moral hierarchies and reconfigures the theological-literary imaginary from a contemporary urban poetics that positions him as one of the emblematic figures of rap in Latin America. El presente estudio analiza la convergencia entre la filosofía existencialista y la lírica urbana en la obra de rap del compositor venezolano Tirone “Canserbero” González al abordar temas profundos de la filosofía, la religión, el folklore y la literatura. A través de un estudio detallado, el ensayo demuestra que esta pieza de rap trasciende el ámbito musical para convertirse en una obra con una carga literaria significativa. Este análisis resalta el valor de la canción como texto social, mostrando su potencial para ser revisada y analizada en el ámbito académico, dada su riqueza cultural y discursiva. La tesis central sostiene que “Es épico” constituye un espacio de convergencia semántica en el que la reescritura de La Divina Comedia de Dante Alighieri y la leyenda de Florentino y el Diablo del venezolano Alberto Arvelo Torrealba permite a Canserbero articular una reflexión existencialista sobre la justicia, el pecado y la soberanía del sujeto. A través de la técnica del rap de batalla, el artista subvierte jerarquías morales tradicionales y reconfigura el imaginario teológico-literario desde una poética urbana contemporánea que lo ubica como una de las figuras emblemáticas del rap en América Latina.
